Pics of Big Red!

drummagirl Apr 15, 2004 01:34 AM

I also have this posted on the BC forums...

This is a 3 yr old male i got from Kara in the early part of march. These shots are also a couple weeks old, the big boy is going into shed right now and i'm hoping to get some new pics soon.

and now you all have to endure the torture of looking at me Actually i loved snapping these shots with him, he's just a character of a snake!
Thought this was a good size-reference photo. I'm 5'4"

He's posing for the camera

Story time! The second time that i had this boy out for a handling session he kept trying to get his face right up in mine. Now mind you, i'm not too keen on having a blood that close to my face He seemed very calm though, so i finally just let him get real close. Get this, he gets his nose about an inch from my face, then flicked his tongue over just about every inch of my face. This went on for quite a few minutes until, satisfied, he went back to sitting in my lap. It was the weirdest/coolest thing i've ever experienced with any snake. He's just an absolute doll of an animal, currently the pride and joy of my collection!

Anywho, thanks for listening, have a good one!

Hey Big,
Is that a Bangka that she sold you, or a normal Sumatran Red Blood? As Steve Erwin once said, "OH It's a Beauty". LOL!

hey there bigworm,

killer looking blood you've got there!

My boy's overall coloration doesn't fluctuate an incredible amount, but i have noticed that he stays darker when inside his home. When i take him out and handle him his coloration will usually brighten up a bit. His head is what really goes through a color change! I pulled him out once and his head was so black that there was actually irredescence on it. Other times it is a beautiful light grey.

thanks for the chat

Very nice, you gotta love the personallity of each snake as an individual! I miss keeping bloods! Actually waiting till daytona to pick up 1.1 True/pure malaysian bloods! Also just put a deposit on 1.1 Timor Pythons. I'll finally have a few reptiles again!

Beautiful! I remember, when I got my first Borneo blood, how excited the first time I was able to be confident enough to take her out for a "photo session." She had been pretty nasty when she arrived, but I'd had her for a couple months at that point, she fed like crazy, so I figured I'd give it a try... undoubtedly, she heads right for my face...=) But she behaved very well, and just a short while later I was able to trust that girl even around young kids at small shows and stuff. Just goes to show how fun it can be to make progress with certain animals with regards to their temperment... especially since not all respond so well!

Hey,

That's awesome that you were able to get your girl tamed down that well. I've got a female that's a farm bred '02 that i don't let anyone else get within striking distance of. She's one that i don't let anywhere near my face! She was actually ok for a while, but i slacked on the handling and we've gone back to square one. I can't wait to get her calmed down like you did with yours. And you're right, there no better feeling of accomplishment than when you take a nutso animal and get them settled down to a point that others can enjoy them!
