Why is every leo so orange lately??

Sybella Apr 15, 2004 03:01 AM

Everywhere I turn, someone is posting pictures of another tangerine leo. I don't like the orange ones to begin with but now it seems that the market is saturated with them.

I love snows but I never see them offered. I love jungles but I rarely see them anymore either.

Is this just me or are others noticing this too??

I've noticed it too, but I love the orange ones. In fact I love them all. Right now I think the tangs are whats hot on the market. There are not many reptiles that come in such a variety of colors or such bright vibrant colors. I really like snows as well, I was trying to get one. I'm not sure why there are not more available, maybe they are harder to produce, or maybe they just look to much like a normal. Who knows, but I think we can expect to see a lot more colors,patterns,... developing in the future. I was talking to someone who said "they need to come up with some blue leopard geckos". I don't know much about genetics but frankly it wouldn't suprise me if someone already has come up with a blue leo somewhere.

Actually Ron Tremper is working on the "blue" morphed leo..personally i dont think its possible.

i have also noticed all the tang,CT,sht and whatnot alot lately...personally..Normals,Snows and Albinos are my favorite morphs, but there are people who want to produce Hybinos and CT Albinos or tangerine albinos, and to make one your going to need tang and CT genes, tangs are also a very nice morph and are very pleasing to have, i have a tangerine baby right now...and she's already showing some intense Tang colors, yeah...anyways there are lots of breders working with tabgs and CT's now so that why you see more tangs and CT's more than any other morph

There was a snow for sale on reptibid last night, but I believe the bidding is over on it now.

I should be getting ready for school, but I'm gonna post anyway! Snows are one of my favorites so of course I've been watching albey's for some more good looking ones to show up. When emailing with him back and forth, I've learned why good, or even okay looking snows are hard to come by. Most of the baby leos born as snows (no matter how GREAT looking the parents were) turn yellow-ish around 4-5 months. SO you could have a perfect black and white snow for 3 1/2 months, but at 4 the white turns a yellow. That's why snows are hard to find. It's hard to make them basically. Lol, so that being the case I would never buy a baby snow from anyone. Albey himself told me that he won't sell baby snows until they have hit the 4-5 month mark so he knows how "good" they are. You can see on his site, that even some of his best looking snows, can have some "color" to them. So that is why there aren't many snows around. Tang babies look like tangs and generally stay as tangs when they are born. Snows have to mature before you can tell. Just thought I'd throw in my little bit of knowledge! Bye now.

Some Tang bloodlines can fade as adults. Imagine buying that $800 animal and having it reduce in value to under $200 in a year.

I have a snow het for bell albino that I hatched last year. He never really colored up like a normal leo, but is now a tan color, quite odd.

It's the same old thing - "strange". When I saw my first hi-yellow hypo about 15 years ago it was incredible. They got more hypo and more yellow, jungles came out then more jungley, then the first albinos for like seven grand, then the first tangs. The thing with the tangs is that they keep getting more and more orange so those of us who like orange envision a carrot orange or red animal from head to toe. I'm personally trying carrot to redstripe to orange banded to try to fill in the gaps. It seems that many of us like orange but you can still find any morph you like if you look hard enough. Did I say that I like orange?

There's so much you can do with their color!

I just threw the snow and jungle comment out there but there are so many other colors. My absolute favorite is purple spots on a white background.

It's just that, almost all the leos offered now are orange and I think that with all the variation out there, there should be more of a spectrum offered...not just yellow/orange. :/ I think it's enough to make the tang lover get tired of them, as orange seems so commonplace now.

I finally found a local breeder I thought I could talk leo with. I called him on the phone but guess what? He has all tangs. I was so disappointed.

Orange, orange, everywhere... sigh

I also like the snows. I also like the tangs. But there kind of gets to a point where there is too much of a good thing. I like the tangs, and the carrot tails, but if I had a stock of 40 or so of them, it would seem rather dull. Its interesting how the market works and the prices falls and what have you. I wish Tremper luck with the blue thing, but I don't have much faith. I would like to see a 100% carrot tail, or a red leo, which will probably happen in a few years.

Dan, awesome leos. I got the impression that you didn't sell them really, maybe you should, they are extremely nice. Saw your pics on the other thread, so now if I see you at a show, I'll actually know. (Going to the Deerfield one? I got a free ticket, but not sure if I'm going, have no need to.)

Anywho, kinda took the thread in a different direction, but I also like the jungles, the tang albinos, etc. Wow, reading this over it seems like I like everything... well everything really without much spotting. Ya, but there are alot of tangs. Orange is a good thing.
