DeanAlessandrini Apr 15, 2004 07:35 AM

This is the all black female...she laid 8 perfect eggs through the night on tuesday.

The "big girl" who was bred with the super high red male (the one in the picture that is at the top of this forum.
is in the nest box and should be laying any time!

Cool stuff, Dean! Congratulations!! It looks like this is going to be a better year all the way around.

My rub eggs are still looking good! All of my BT eggs were infertile...

Hey, I wonder if anybody makes cigars for us to pass around? Maybe on the band, instead of "It's a Girl!" or "It's a boy!", they could say "It's 4.5!"

Congrats man! That sure is a pretty mamma! If pappa is that pretty, those babies should be gorgious. Now you can stop biteing your nails for a while. Well maybe not, I guess the fun has just begun.

I talked to Robert Seib about the prospect of trading my male for one of his all blacks, to mix up the genes a bit, and try for more black. He was agreable. Whatya think? And would we need any permits for that? Thanks, and congrats again!
Tony.

Tony,
Unless you live in California, you will need the Federal Permit. Anytime you transfer an Eastern Indigo across state lines in exchange for anything at all, including another Indigo, you have to have the permit. It's pretty easy to get, though.

So you are saying that I will have to get one but he will not? I live in Missouri, and he lives in California.
Tony.

No, I'm pretty sure you both have to have the permits....or, maybe for a trade they'll issue one permit to cover both ends of the trade....not sure. I'm sure both of you will have to provide the documentation showing the origins of the snakes. To my knowledge, the only time that you don't need the permit is when it is a straight donation, like to a zoo or University or an accredited research facility or something like that. If there's anything at all received in exchange, then it is considered interstate commerce and the permit is required.

Maybe I'd better give Victoria Davis a call. I think that was her name, right?

DeanAlessandrini Apr 16, 2004 05:51 AM

all the breeder must do is provide a statmenet certifiing the snakes are cb. We did this once before tony, remember?
nothing has changed

So, in the case of a trade like this, where it's an even trade one Indigo for another, the receiving party doesn't need a permit? That's confusing. In a straight up sale, the breeder provides documentation that the snake is captive born, and the buyer has to get a permit. In the case of a trade, neither party has to have a permit (although both are technically buyers), but both have to provide a statement of origin? I mean, that's a lot easier, but it just doesn't make sense to me for some reason...not that that's a surprise. Federal laws, rules and regulations seldom make much sense to me.

DeanAlessandrini Apr 16, 2004 11:23 AM

I missed the trade part. I thought he was BUYING a snake from Robert Sieb, not trading.

I must have read too fast...

glad to see you are going to have a couple of good clutches....my year is a bust as I decided to hold back all of my females to give them the year off. Are all of your's spoken for? If not, let me know as I have some folks on my wait list that are chomping at teh bit for an indigo.
