substrate nightmare!

lanie024 Apr 15, 2004 08:31 AM

OK so... when i first found this website, i posted a question and mentioned that i had sand as my substrate. I found out from some of you that it causes problems, so i changed it. Next, i changed it to repti-grass or whatever it is. My Leo is a baby, and she got her claw stuck in the grass( it isnt that long) and she dropped her tail. So, after that i went to Home Depot yesterday and got some adhesive tile to put in her tank. It looks good, and i dont think it will cause any problems..but if anyone thinks so, PLEASE let me know. ( I tried buying slate like some of you recommended but no one could cut it for me so i got the tile instead)

so PLEASE let me know if you think it may cause problems!!

Did you get the vinyl tile with the adhesive back? If so, that's what I have. I didn't stick it to my enclosure though...I just set it in there with the backing still on. I havn't had any problems with it, and my geckos don't seem to have a problem with it. It lets the heat from the heating pad through well and easy to pull out and just wipe off.

should be fine as long as the adheisive does not put off any fumes when heated by the UTH or light. If you stuck it to the floor I would go around the edge of it with a small bead of 100% silicone will make sure particles don't work there way underneith. Make sure and let it dry 24 hours also.

Someone in here recommended paper towels to me. I tryed them and they kick ass. Cheap and easy to replace.
Good luck

sanded it down slightly so your leos can get a grip on it its pretty slippery...

depends on the specific tiles...I have self-adhesive tiles that look like stone...and my girls don't slip on it all. It's the gloss finished stuff that should be sanded.
