Russian eggs

SJB Apr 15, 2004 09:47 AM

I live in Southern California which gets very warm in the summer time but some times snows in the winter being I live up in the moutains. My Russian tortoises live outside
in a concrete pen which is 5x10 feet and four foot deep into the ground two feet of it is sandy dirt. I have drilled holes in the bottem for dranage. The top of it is ground level whith a over hang and a screen top. I cover the top with a tarp during the night. They are in this outside incloser spring through summer.I bring them in side during the winter. Was wondering if their eggs would still hatch if I just left them outside where they buried them?
Thanks lot,
SJB

If the enclosure gets full sun and the eggs are deposited in the spring, they probably would hatch on their own.

Thanks ED thank I'll give it a try and see what happens. One more question, is the male Russian usually smaller then the female? My females were both smaller then my male when I got them several years ago but now both females are a lot larger then him.
Thanks,
SJB
