Feeding schedule?

Melle Apr 15, 2004 12:51 PM

Hello,

I am getting a baby savannah monitor in the near future, and i have a question to ask all of you that i cant seem to find the answer to. Everywhere I look says that you have to be careful not to overfeed them, and that they become obese very easily. so, how much exactly should you feed them? I will be getting a very young one, like a 4-5 inch one and grow it up. How much is the right amount for a baby one, and as it grows? how do i know when its too much, or not enough? I assume that littler ones need to eat more since they are doing a lot of growing, but i dont want to feed it so much that it will become chubby. any help would be appreciated, I just want to make sure I raise a healthy lizard Thanks in advance!

Not from being fed too much, kinda. A healthy monitor will put food down alot faster and alot more than what youd ever believe. They need the ability to use the food and digest it with a high basking temp and a cool area to relax. My younger BT/WT cross at around 3ft was eating 6-9 adult mice a day for a while and crapping them out as well growing long and thin. As they get older and growth slows down they eat alot less.
