Ok i caught a snake today in my yard under some boards.. its all black, except for underneath him, and his lower jaw looks eather white or cream. simi heavy body snake, i'm saying that because considering how wide he his, it seems like he should be long for being a colubrid which is what i'm guessing he is.. i'll try to get pics later on tonight once he stops strikeing at me... I was guessing black at snake, but i don't think they have any white or cream on them..

if someone can point me to a site that gives a "compleat" list of snakes in la, and pics, that would be great.

Coluber constrictor priapus is the racer and Elaphe obsoleta obsoleta is the rat snake. "The Amphibians and Reptiles of Louisiana" by Dundee & Rossman is the definitive guide. Order a copy from any book store or come to Herp Fest at the Louisiana Nature Center in New Orleans and get an autographed copy. Stay tuned for dates. ~Bill~
