Currently I have it on 24/7, does it need to be this way? Should I just run it 0nce or twice a day for a couple hours?

All of my water features run 24/7. They help keep the tanks cooler and the humidity up. The frogs have never complained either 
just my .02

I only run mine with the lights so 12 hours a day. The frogs sleep at night so i see no benefit of running it. I shut the fans off also, which brings the humidity to 100%.
