Black and White.

Other than possible size differences, are there any major differences between the Blackthroated and Whitethroated? There doesn't seem to be an overwhelming amount of information out there on Whitethroats, so I figured I'd ask here.

I've personally seen a nearly 5 foot Whitethroat that was dog tame (Fall asleep on your lap and go for walks tame) but I was wondering if that was the exception, rather than the rule.

I'd imagine they'd be fairly similar, but then if you look at other animals that you'd think would be similar (Arg. Tegu vs Columbian Tegu) you see that it's not always the case.

(For Fu**'s sake, I've been dancing around this whole getting a monitor thing forever. Atleast it's not an impulse buy.)

The BT lives comes from an area closer to the equator more consistantly warmer all year around with more food resources and more woodland like environment than its southern WT cousin which has winters that get cold when they brumate and less food available to them. Both are Varanus Albigularis as well there are some V Microstictus (BTs) around. Both are a large monitor species capapble of 5-7 ft and 15-50 ? lbs (a bit obese). They are built for digging and love to climb trees to find a favorite food item (birds). They both love to snakes, lizards, insects, etc etc (anything that fits in their mouth). The Albig is a notorious tail whipper and is known for being the worst or best (depends how you look at it)tail whipper among monitors. They have jaws like a vice that can hang on until theyve either crushed bones and flesh alike and let go when they feel like doing so. They are very very powerful animals at any size (suprises you how strong they are) and can do alot of damage unintentionally very quickly. The 2 are interbreedable (same species).
They are addictive and Ive kept them now for many years.

So basically, the only major difference would be slight color variations?
