Experience with gravid columbians? I need your advice, please!!!

scales Apr 15, 2004 04:27 PM

A friend of mine has a large columbian, who we believe to be gravid. 4 or 5 months ago (i can get specifics if it will help someone provide answers) she was mating with a smaller male... Normally gentle to a fault, she's gotten grouchy as of late. And lumpy... thats the strange part. Big ripply lumps on her belly. Granted, I have never seen a gravid boa before, but every other gravid snake i have encountered has looked fat, not lumpy. Forgive my ignorance here, but if this is abnormal, and you know some other cause other than pregnancy that could have caused it, please, please, please let me know. This is the animals first pregnancy, and she is seven feet long. Her cage is set up to pretty much "textbook" specifications...
Your advice, comments, and thoughts are very much appreciated. Perhaps this is normal, but outside my area of knowledge nonetheless. Thanks!

Hi;
Could it be the lumpy look is Ovulation or maybe the snake did not defecate for a long time ? Just some stabs in the dark. maybe some of the more experienced will offer better suggestions.

Hey if you could get some pre-breeding pics and then some comparision shots of how she looks now we could tell you, if you are just worried about her and the lumps you can just post a now pic of her and someone here will be able to help you out with normal/unnormal.. Sorry i wasnt more helpful but good luck with her...
