I see many of you have extensive knowledge on more then just uromastyx, however keep in mind that we cant stop progress, these animals are asking more then you are giving them at present, I can see that and so can Robyn. We can go on and on arguing about zillions of unfunded views, at the end only results matters.

I have different ideas then most keepers and breeders here, I even have different views then PE, but our objectives are the same (healthy animals) I know from experience that soon Robyn will hatch clutches after clutches of uromastyx, and most peoples dough ting him now will say (well I tot this was impossible) and 10-15 years from now will say (I really tot they’d be dead by now) why do I know this? Simply because modern husbandry is about allowing animals to save energy and to transfer this energy into production. Think about this any way you wish, the outcome will always be about preservation.
We make it complicated not them.

Just my view

thanks for the support

it is a good point that we don't have to think alike, or agree, but we can still have discussion, even challenging discussion, and you can take parts, ideas, and theories in context, and apply them as you will.

unfortunately, most folks on the current forum are stuck in personal type stuff, and a lot of anthropomorphic ideas, and i feel like the actual ideas behind my posts are lost to crackpottery

oh, well, i posted enough to get the point across, i will go back to lurking, because i DO have better things to do, and folks here can go back to comparing animal pics and talking about "best birdseed"

Robyn,
To be quite honest with you, its the statements above that is most likely the cause of your ideas being lost on most members and lurkers of this forum. I believe and stated that you have some very good ideas, but sometimes your delivery of said ideas just seems to smack of arrogance. I am going to paraphrase something you stated along time back in this very forum. "You can't force good husbandry practices on a person" and I say you can't force good ideas on the same type of people.
Best of luck with your uro project and to your specimens as well.

Best regards,

Carson

I don't think it's really as much a matter of forcing good ideas on people that don't accept them. Maybe at times it seems that way, but basically the only thing that bothers me is throwing out all other ideas and calling them bad husbandry (though true bad husbandry is husbandry that causes the animal to be in bad health and probably not survive). The ideas are great, though I thought it was sort of funny that it seems like such a new idea, when just looking through one of my general lizard care books it said that uros can be housed on deep burrowable soil (they said clay/sand mixture, but it's the same idea). I think basically it's just the fact that it, at times, seems as though Robyn is saying that basically, if you don't do it his way, you are just a bad reptile keeper. It's sort of like being a salesman. If you are trying to make a sale, you won't openly call someone you're trying to sell something to "ignorant", or "crackpots". That's a good way to lose any future sales.

Not meaning to diss you or anything, Robyn. I do think that if you keep this stuff in mind in the future, it will be much easier to get people to accept the idea. For example, instead of saying something about someone else's animals being unhealthy from not using dirt, focus entirely on how the dirt setup will improve the lizard(s). If someone doesn't like the idea, don't automatically shun them for it. Just tell them something like "well, it's your choice. But a dirt setup done well is superior to just using a dry substrate", and basically stop there unless the other person has more questions. No need to push the issue on people that clearly have made up their mind to not use it.

Just some thoughts. I hope you don't take it the wrong way.

i am not on the forum to hold any hands, or coo at any pics. i am trying to pull a few minutes out of a busy day to post info. maybe i need to use more smiley faces : ) as you can't necessarily see true attitude behind a post, but i am not holier than thou. i am not even unique. on this particular forum, maybe a bit, but on other forums, not at all, these ideas are common, and proven.

talking about anthropomorphising isn't slamming anybody, it is an attempt to point out the different way that folks view a problem.

i am trying to share, and quickly, and without question, SOME of the arguments from the "other side" have been downright loopy. don't let it hurt feelings. this is about Uros, not you, or any other personality, including me
