flavi/argus questions, FR, others please offer exp

I've researched old posts but still unclear of 3 things.
1. Adult size
2. Temperment
3. Feeding

I saw several references to the temperment being "somewhere between". Could you elaborate? are they still aggressive, just not AS agressive as pure Argus? Do the crossess become the same food consuming machines as pure argus? What would you say the AVERAGE size is?

Now, I know every monitor is an individual, but to what extent would you say these factors are consistent? For example, for the most part, niles TEND to be nasty, and for the most part, yellow ackies TEND to be calm.
So, whereas Argus TEND to be aggressive, crosses tend to be, what?

Again, the thing I'm most interested in is the consistency of these traits. What has been your observations, experiences regarding flavi/argus crosses?
thank you,
Paul Kemes

Paul, hi there
I have three crosses 1stly the sizes will differ I have a three footer a 2 footer and 2.5 footer dont know if they will get too much bigger theyre crosses so youll never know. But then again when do you know with any species. It all depends on husbandry. Mine have temperments all over the place. Sometimes theyre calm other times the hiss other times they tailwhip and hiss, but never attempted to bite. I guess they have different moods. Thirdly mine eat every other day i feed them mice, and now that it is warm snakes and lizards i find around the house and near the creek i live in they love them. The thing with monitors is that nothing is set on stone when it comes to the information youre looking for there are always exceptions to everything. But overall crosses are clamer, smaller, and eat less than any argus i have had.

hope this helps

So far, crosses are prone to get as large as argus, specially when gouldi genes are included.

About eating as much, hmmmmmmmm all monitors eat too much. Argus males are nuts and the world is their oyster. The rest eat lots and only part of their world is their oyster.

When I first kept argus, we started with wild caught, and some indeed, bit, as well as think your food, that is long gone for us. We have two sets of young argus and they are sweet. So don't spoil my innocence.

I really have a hard time with your questions, because, the whole gouldi complex fit in the same mold. Argus are a bit larger, none of our crosses have exceeded four feet, I have heard of argus almost six feet. Our breeder argus have not exceeded four and one half feet. But I limit the adults males from getting larger.

All and all, I like them all, isn't that apparent, or I would not have all of them. Good luck FR

How do you limit the adult males from getting larger? I didn't realise that was possible.
Thanks.
