Too much humidity?

Passport Jun 14, 2003 07:58 AM

I am in the process of setting up a sliding rack for my corns. I have some yearlings in rubbermaid already which sit on the edge of a (human) electric heat pad. They have a small water dish which also serves as a hide. The dish itself is not sitting on the heat pad but still the humidity is high and I can see condensation on the sides of the tub. Last night I changed the substrate as it felt damp to me and sides of tub were wet. The snakes appear fine but I understand that sometimes blister disease can be a problem. My new rack has the heat in the back panel and should be better? for not causing so much condensation. Is this high humidity going to give my snakes a problem?

The high humidity can create problems. The substrate can begin to mold and mildew if it remains damp for very long. This in turn can cause repiritory problems.
In the rubbermade containers you can add more air holes. I had the smae problem so I added more holes to improve airflow and made sure to set my heat pad on low.
You might not have the same problems with the new rack but if you do increase ventilation.
just a thought
