Bibrons are not available in captivity, what you have is a turners Thick toed gecko(bibrons and turners are very similar though)and Bibron and White Spotted Geckos are different species.

Are u sure bibrons aren't sold in captivity? Not like I'm disappointed, but are u telling me that the 2 geckos I lost and the one whose life I saved aren't Bibrons? I need to send some pics then of my surviving little girl. I heard that they can get up to 7 inches, how long does that take?

Tarentola Apr 16, 2004 07:24 AM

Well,a few months ago it said ina Reptiles Magazine that P.bibroni aren't currently sold out of Africa(I am assuming you don't live in Africa). They call P.turneri, P.Bibroni in petstores,it is really confusing, but here too fifferent species.

The natural habitat range for P. bibroni is basically entirely in South Africa, which does not, and has not allowed for many years, export of Bibron's gecko. P. turneri ranges from the Nothern part of South Africa through Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Angola and southern Tanzania, with Tanzania being a major exporter of reptiles. Examination of specimens in the pet trade going back to at least the mid-1980s has shown most or all to be P. turneri. Apparently the two species are nearly identical except for minor scalation differences. I think there's a key available in Bill Branch's Field Guide to Snakes of Southern Africa if you're still not sure of what you have.

I'd be a bit concerned about the "doesn't stick to things very well", however--that sounds like there might be damage to his toe pads, or retained skin. You may want to inspect them more closely, after his food digests.
Letting them run on wet paper towel for a couple of hours (in a tupperware box) can be helpful for loosening retained skin, which can be gently removed by rubbing or with tweezers--it has to be done very carefully, to prevent damage, though.

He has gotten better but I will try to caputre him and get the skin off
