painted turtle shell problems

ubermental Apr 15, 2004 08:26 PM

my painted turtle is about 2 i think. I just adopted her. She has light brown spots on her shell. They look almost like her shell is drying out. They have gotten worse since i got her. However she swims a lot and does not spend excessive time in the heat. I recently found out i was overfeeding her. Could this be the beginings of pyramiding? If not, any ideas?

Hi, me again

She may be getting ready to shed. They often discolor
before shedding them which is completely normal. Just
keep a close eye on it and don't try to pull them off.
Let them fall off on their own. Shedding means they are
growing.

i bought a little turtle for the tank that dissolves with calcium and medication. after just 2 days her shell is looking a little better. The guy at the store said that means you were probably right. thank you soooo much for your advice.
