Timers Set To Natural Daylight Durations - Good/Bad?

Syd Apr 15, 2004 08:43 PM

I was just curious to see who keeps their timers on a natural daylight setting, with them coming on at sunrise and off at sunset in your respected areas? Since I have had my Veiled I have kept him on a 12 hour cycle. I am considering having them come on at the same time (6:00 A.M.) but keeping them on until sunset. They would go from 12 hours a day to 13 hours and eventually 14 hours when summer gets here. Would having my lights on for 14 hours a day be too much for an adult Veiled? I live in Arizona!

I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving the light on for more than 12 hours. Your cham might stress. My panther got used to a 12 hour light cycle and would go to sleep even if the lights were on when the time zone changed. I adjusted the timer when she did that. I supposed she was telling me she'd had enough. ) Hope this helps, Lisette

Actually, the natural daylength variation for most cham habitats doesn't vary that much. I don't change my timers by season. The chams regulate themselves despite what the outdoors does mostly. But, I live in Alaska where our summer days are over 18 hours. The chams roost and sleep when they want despite the daylight.

Well, I'm in a very small bush town NW of Juneau, AK. You've probably never heard of Gustavus? No road, just air taxis and boat access.
