the-mikester Apr 15, 2004 11:10 PM

does anybody (jeff, lol) have any experience with these animals? once i get some money and sell me BCI id like to get a cuban boa to put in the cage. will 6' x 1.5' x 2' do it for a male? female? i still have alot to read, but i thought id come and see what people with experience thought of them. whats the temper on them? how much do they usually cost? ya thats about it for now, they are definatley beautiful animals.
while im at it, what about bihimi boas? could ya answer some of those for them too?

Cubans are great. I have a trio I can't wait to breed in about 2 years. I have an anery female. I have alot to learn about breeding. I think to prove her out as anery, I have to breed one of her sons back to her? But anyway, they're evil when they're babies. Like seriously EVIL. They strike at any movement and aim for your face when they're close enough to see what they're trying to kill. But they outgrow it in about a year. They grow pretty slowly. So the cage you mentioned would be fine for a long time. I have a 2 and a half year old female and she's like right at 5 feet. For the biggest boa species next to anacondas, that's pretty slow. As far as price, market price on babies seems to be $150 right now. Just last year, they were alot more.

I have kept them and they are really nice boas--just not 'cuddly' like common boa constrictors. You have to be aware of the fact that they can carry some attitude.
But mine became very tame when they were about 2 months old and stayed that way. I did interact with them quite a bit and always held them calmly and with no sudden movements right in their face or around their heads. But that advice goes for almost all of the Epicrates.
And some of them can be incredibly beautiful with bold pattern.
