Uh-huh. Famous last words. I love it when people say that..."They never bite." Riiiggghhhtt...Anything with a mouth and teeth can bite, and will if the mood strikes it. Some species are less inclined to bite than others, but that sure doesn't mean they won't. I have received a NASTY bite from an Eastern Indigo. I've heard people say the same thing about Bungarus ssp. too...there's a (now deceased) famous herpetologist that could tell you that's wrong, if he wasn't dead.

Love to be handled? No they don't. They just tolerate it better than some of the other subspecies.

Absolutely!!!All snakes, and these especialy, live solitary lives in the wild and they are instinctivly programed to perceive any living thing they encounter as either prey or threat. Either way your asking for it! BUT,... these guys of mine are so gentle and shy , it's easy to be lured into a false sense of security. Like you said, "they just tolerate it."
Tony.
