Do big burms need big water bowls?

ben_renick Apr 15, 2004 11:15 PM

I have a 5' female burm. I'm about to build her a large 8'x2'6"x2' enclosure. I'm going to put her waterbowl built into the floor of the cage, I'm just wondering if she will need a huge water bowl? Right now the waterbowl I'm planning to use is about 1'8" long, and 6" deep. Would that be big enough for her when she is older?

Thanks
Ben

Even thought big burms will take full advantage of large pools to get their entire body in, that really isn't required. I use Northwoods, Ltd. (a falconry supply company) blue plastic water pans for my big herps. They are round, large enough to hold enough water to prevent tipping, and are easy to clean and disinfect (and they are very cheap). The bowls are about the size of a large pizza pan and approximately 6" deep. Hydration is very important but you can achieve good results by providing daily fresh water and mistings. Hope this helps. I rep store where I live has a nice 10 foot cage with one of those small ponds you can buy at home depot. Pretty cool looking. It might be too big for your setup but just a thought
