VERMICULITE ????'S

JUST HAD A QUICK ? ABOUT INCUBATING IN VERMICULITE.... I'VE ALWAZE USED SPAGNUM MOSS B4 THIS IS MY 1ST YR TO USE ONLY VERM. AND I WAS WONDERIN EVERYTIME I OPEN THE EGG BOX THERE IS A SLIGHT FOUL SMELL.... I LOOK FAST FOR ROTTEN EGGS BUT ALL ARE STILL GOOD.... DOES VERMICULITE TEND TO HAVE AN ODOR WHEN DAMP AND HUMID IN A CLOSED LIL SWEATER BOX....? NE INFO WOULD HELP THANX.... MIKE....

Yes it does, a mildewy smell, but *knocks on wood* I've never had a much of a problem with mold on my eggs and I have always used moist vermiculite.

As a general rule verm is pretty resistant to mold, its PH balance helps keep contaminates at bay ... but theres always a chance.
