Why all the w/c Easterns being marketed by Retail guys?

madmatt Apr 16, 2004 02:46 AM

Saw some ads in the classifieds for adult w/c Easterns with the larger operations. Aren't there enough captive born?

The Daytona show was flooded with baby easterns when I went. I picked up a nice pinky feeding black and white baby with thin complete bands and a solid black belly for $15 (from unrelated parents to boot)

So why would someone buy w/c adults, especially without locality info? It seems like there are enough guys breeding them and the need to take from the wild isn't that great OR Are they just really common?

Matt,

I think for a couple of reasons. Some folks want adults that can breed right now and or might even be gravid when you get them. Im not saying I agree or disagree as I know I personally would want a CB bred baby less hassle but at the same time I would like the option of buying a wild animal for outcrossing prospects. Maybe bag limits is the way to go with wild reptiles with "hunting seasons" much like fishing and hunting ??? its a slippery slope any way you look at.

Keith
