Mites!! Need help!!

Alyssa84 Apr 16, 2004 02:55 AM

Okay, I searched older messages and I gather that Black Knight is the best way to go... but I can't find the stuff for sale anywhere!! (Aside from which, do I really have time to wait for something to be shipped to me??)

So far I've cleaned the cage thoroughly with hot water and lysol, and stripped it down to newspaper and a water dish, and soaked the boa, and then started searching for something to treat her with... she's already starting to act lethargic, I need to get ahold of something fast Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On a side note, are these little buggers dangerous to humans or other animals? There are quite a few living with me. Any information/assistance would be helpful. Thanks!

Use provent a mite, I had mites one time in the last 12 years, and used it, it works great.

Don't use Lysol to clean/disinfect cages, unless you rinse them very well afterwards (Lysol is toxic to herps).

Good luck,
Chad

Go to wally world and grab a can of sevin dust 5%.It's in lawn and garden.Clean the cage and give the snake a good soaking. While your snakes soaking spread sevin dust in the bottom and around the the sides, under and around the cage.Dont worry it's harmless to humans and it sweeps up.Let your snake dry off in a seperate container for a couple hours then hand rub sevin dust on him then put him back in his cage. This will wipe out any living mite. You will want to repeat this a week later to catch the new hatches of mites....Paul.

Thanks for the input; I'll definitely invest in that dust stuff...

I took her to the vet this morning, and the vet gave her an injection of something that will supposedly get rid of the mites on her body. I've also scrubbed her and her cage down twice, and I don't see any more, so hopefully we got rid of most of them... the vet wanted to see her again in 2 weeks, and in the meantime I'll get that dust and do her and her cage.

Thanks for your help!
