11 eggs.....

Joe Compel Apr 16, 2004 08:21 AM

They always look so big to me. It amazes me how they do it. Here is a big girl coiled on a clutch of 11.

Here is the clutch of eggs.

This girl was 3898 grams (a little more than 8.5 pounds if my math is correct) when she was "cleaned out" in January. After laying her eggs yesterday she was 2480 grams (a little less than 5.5 pounds). The clutch was 1250 grams.
This girl dropped to about 64% of her original body weight. The clutch represented 32% of her body mass. The remaining difference was most likely due to the passing of fluids and urates and other metabolic functions since January.

Thats good to see, a nice big clutch. You wouldn't get that out of a 1500gram girl.

Good luck with everything.

You go Joe! It is amzing to see all those BIG eggs come out of such a small snake. Thanks for the info it's always interesting to know how much it takes for these animals to produce offspring.

how will you incubate them now?
just asking cause i think i saw a pic of someone's clutch in an incubator just like they are in your pic, all stacked up and no perlite or anything.
also what are the incubation temps?
thanks

I sink them in vermiculite and cook them at 88-90 degrees. The previous pics showed the female on eggs and the eggs on mulch in her enclosure.

Way to go! That is a "decent" clutch!
Gotta keep back all the girls from that one!
What are the sire and dam?

Hillary

Joe Compel Apr 18, 2004 08:21 AM

The sire is a black back. The dam is just a big normal honker female.....one of my favorites.
Here is a picture of the sire.

He looks similar to what I am calling brown backs but his color is much darker. I just figured I see what he has in him.
