ticks on python

i bought a ball python about 6 weeks ago. yesterday i found 2 ticks on him. and then found a third crawling down his back. i changed his bedding and rinsed the cage with boiling water. ive read that ticks are not as bad as mites but i wanted to see if other precautions needed to be taken?
