buying partially raised boas- pros and cons????

bpmaster123 Apr 16, 2004 03:24 PM

my friend is selling a beautiful 3-4 foot columbian redtail boa. He keeps it nicely and it is very friendly and feeds on rats. He is only getting rid of it because his parents don't like snakes. He is selling for a reasonable price. I thought this would be nice because i know him and i really don't want to raise one from a baby. Does this sound ok or is it a bad idea?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
thanks

I don't know if you currently have any other snakes or not, or if you have any of the requirements for a Boa. But assuming that this is your only snake, or you follow a proper quarentine time frame (90-180 days)and have the ability to care for the snake then buying a yearling is never a problem. Most folks would prefer it because of the challange of raising a baby. There is nothing wrong with getting a "teenager" snake. I however would not reccomend that a novice keeper get an adult boa as their first snake. A boa that you have a chance to let grow up is much less intimidating then a boa that is already 7 feet long.
Good luck with it
