Ok guys and gals.

Please let it be known that when the OFF TOPIC discussions outnumber the Leopard Gecko discussions - something is seriously off kilter. The occasional off topic conversation is fine, but when things get seriously out of control it needs to be dealt with.

Your recent posting spree has led me to do two things -

1 - Generalized off topic conversations are in the process of being moved over to the Open Discussion Forum where they properly belong.

2 - The high level of personal photos of each other has caused me to try something new. I have created a new forum called the The Member's Gallery. This forum is being set aside where members of the kingsnake.com forums can share photos of themselves as well as photos of their artwork, etc.

I am still in the process of scanning through the leopard gecko forum and moving certain threads to one or the other of those above mentioned forums.

Please help me keep the leopard gecko on track for what it was intended for - to discuss leopard geckos. Take any new conversations to the Open discussion forum or personal photo sharing topics to The Member's Gallery.

Thanks.

there used to be a place on the leopard gecko forum where you could post a pic of yourself and write a little profile, too. anyone else remember that? that was cool...how come we don't have that anymore? it would have saved the trouble of posting all these pics...

I've been finding myself teetering between enjoying all the pictures and offtopic posts, which brings us all closer as a community, and finding it annoying that no one is talking about leopard geckos anymore! LOL!! It's a love-hate thing, I suppose.

ew1074 Apr 16, 2004 04:39 PM

No offense to anyone but that got a little out of hand. And the "contests" were so annoying. The worst part was when the same pictures started getting posted 3 or 4 times.

thegeckobarn Apr 16, 2004 04:40 PM

then why dont we let it rest and get back to leopard geckos instead of complaints? Or is there a complaint forum already? If so...get to moving em!

Sorry I offended you. With all due respect, that picture thing went on for three days, this has gone on for 5 minutes, and its not complaining. Just expressing like everyone else has been doing for the last week. I"m leaving for the day so this doesnt break out. Really sorry for offending you.

thegeckobarn Apr 16, 2004 04:45 PM

Its just that when people start making new threads about the complaints of OT threads..its kind of hypocritical. So IMHO, we need to just move on, and not make the people who DID post to the OT threads feel bad or look bad for doing so, even if its not intended.

Please correct me if i am wrong about this. I was under the impresion that that was more of a community rather than a Q&A board. While the posts in question were not about the geckos themselves, they were about the members of the community, therefore i dont see that really being off topic, i mean if we were posting pics of our cars, or our computer setups, i could see it being a problem. I thought it was great to see everyone in the community seeing each other and all the comments that were made about each other, things like that can do nothing but make the community better.
Setting up forums just for that is a good idea if people will actually visit them, btu we are already here so why not have it here where it is revelant?
Im not complaining, just putting in my 2cents

Very True. I had been told by one of the Moderators of this forum that this was a community, so OT posts were allowed.

However, I can see where the Hot Guy Contest might have been annoying - that thing got HUGE (trust me - I had NO idea it would get THAT crazy when I started it!!). Although it was fun to meet all these people "Face to Face."

And I still think Crystal's "Complaint Forum" idea is a good one..!!

As was made clear in my original post:

When the OFF TOPIC discussions have a tendancy to outnumber the Leopard Gecko discussions - something is seriously off kilter. The OCCASIONAL off topic conversation is fine, but when things get out of control then it needs to be dealt with.

I pulled close to 600 (six hundred!) posts off this forum that were off topic or part of the personal photo sharing spree. Those 600 posts were made within a 4 (four) day period.

When you look at the situration from that view point - the posting spree was most certainly out of control and as such it was dealt with.
