A little bit orange!

Mike Greathouse Apr 16, 2004 06:47 PM

This little fellow hatched on April 10th. He has a very pleasing orange cast to his entire shell combined with that beautiful red head. What a cutey. Just wanted to share. I think this little one's definitely a keeper!

Thanks,

My adult male (Zachary) has a pretty nice red/orange head. My female (Tess) has the more standard yellow/orange head markings.
The red head seem to be a somewhat dominant trait as a large percentage of the babies exhibit this trait. Over the last two years, all of the babies except one have had the red head markings. Right now, I've got two clutches of 4 babies each out and there are three that have the lighter heads - more then in the last two years combined. Conversely, some of the others have some of the brightest red heads that Tess has ever produced. The little fellow pictured is a good example.

Both of my adults were captive bred and are of the standard form of Redfoot - even though many of their offspring resemble the cherry head dwarf form.

Thanks,

Mike Greathouse
