Long Fingers/Toes

Greenwicche Apr 16, 2004 09:56 PM

Sweetpea has very long fingers/toes. Is this normal? Will she/he grow into them? All the pictures I see of other Igs their toes are "normal" looking. This is her/his first day home. I've modified her housing to give her more room, taken out the bark substrate and hot rock. What do you think? Male or female?

His/her fingers and toes are normal. It doesn't look to be more than a year old though. How long is your iggy? My little one is almost 1 year old and is 25 inches long stl(snout to tail length). Then my 2 year old is over 3 feet long and has lost part of her tail. here is a picture of them.

You can see the platform on top of the light. That is an old picture of them.

So she'll grow into her toes. Whew! She's 30" from snout to tail tip. She's been undernourished since she was 6-wks old...only fed romaine or endive (i can't remember which). Plus she had hookworms when I got her. I'm thinking she may be small due to this. It's a wonder she doesn't have MBD. Now that she's on a good diet maybe she'll actually grow to a normal size. Male or female? I don't see any femoral pore development. Your guys look fat and happy! Great picture!

Thanks. They are a little bigger now. And the brown one(Sam-2 years old) is getting lighter in color so hopefully she will go back to being green. She was that color when I got her. I'm not sure about yours growing into his/her toes though. LOL. Their toes stay pretty long. It's weird watching them hang from one toe when they're climbing around their enclosure.

I'd say normal toes too She looks good!

I was looking at some of your pictures in the photo gallery. I was wondering... the one with the cat, is the iggy in the cage? I've read that if cats, dogs, or other animals sit and stair at iggys in their cages it will stress them out. It took me a while to get my cats from just sitting there looking at them. I've introduced them outside of the cage so that the cats know what they are and aren't as curious. They only one I let roam with out being too supervised with the cats is Chaos, but he is big enough to where the cats are affraid of him. They just follow him aroung.

The cats aren't allowed in the same room as she is without supervision. I just happened to turn around and caught the moment. I shooed Merlin away after that.
