Here's what I've learned about bathing...
1. How much water do you put in the bin (depth)? What temperature?
You only want enough water to go up to the side of the Uro, so he can still touch the bottom and move himself around. For baby Uros, like mine, it generally helps to hold them at the water level. Scooter falls asleep when I do this! What Temp? I've never taken the temp of the water I've used, but I go by this rule: if its too hot for you to touch, its probably a little too hot. You don't want it much cooler though, because he's hopefully just come from his warm environment. I notice Scooter will get ancy if the water cools off, so I try to bring in some more hot water half way through.
2. Is there a better time of day to bathe your Uro?
I've always heard that its best to bathe your Uro when they still have plenty of time to bask to heat out that water. You don't want to send them to bed right after a bath. Also, remember that when they bathe, water takes the place of food for a few hours, so I wouldn't bathe him immediatly before or after eating.
3. And when? How do you judge when your Uro needs a bath?
Like Mommy said, I don't think Uros ever "need" baths, but it helps sometimes in shedding and with overall hydration. I was told once a week is good, twice a week is plenty. This was advice for my little Uro.
You also want to consider HOW LONG you are bathing your Uro. I've heard 15 minutes, but not really any longer. My little guy doesn't stay that long, cause he can't handle soaking up as much water.
Hope this helps!
NOTE: This is not professional advice, just info from one Uro owner to another! Take away what you will.
