Smaug is gone

kap10cavy Apr 16, 2004 11:03 PM

I posted a while back about a savannah I rescued. Well, last week he just quit eating. We took him to a vet and he didn't find any parasites, he was dehyderated and malnurished. He gave us some syringes, food, some electrolites and a calorie supplement. We tried force feeding him and, getting bit in the proccess, but he threw everything up. I got so exited when he ate some crickets lastnight but, he threw them up too. This evening he died. I'm sorry I wasn't able to save him but feel I did my best to make him comfortable. I am going to miss the little guy. It makes me mad when I hear about these pet stores selling these beautiful animals to minors. Sorry if this post is long but if anyone reading this breeds and sells monitors, try to make sure the buyers know what they are doing.
Would I do it again? In a heart beat, I've always had a love for animals and if I can save another I will.
My thanks to the people that post here with useful information.

Scott

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

Sorry for your loss Scott - but GOOD FOR YOU for trying to save the little fellow. You did what you could, and for that, Thanks. I try not to visit pet shops for my heart bleeds for the little savannahs, niles, waters slowly dying before someone good hearted and caring buys them before it is too late. For smaug it was too late....
Best Regards,

I am so sorry to hear of Smaug's passing. You tried your best to save him and you have to know that the time he spent with you was far better than his life could have ever been in the pet shop. You can't save them all, but you can make a difference for the one.

I'm really sorry too, to hear this. When I lost my beloved female some years ago, I was completely heartbroken. I feel exactly the same way about petstores, sigh...
