but I'm just looking for confirmation. If I put 2 males into a 20 gallon long enclosure with a painted plexi glass wall, they will still smell each other and go bananas right??

Well, its up for debate! I have kept males in a 22X16X6 Sterilite with a divider without a problem for some time, until the divider was knocked loose the other night!
Thankfully, I was building a rack and was right there and able to seperate them before there was any damage to either gecko!
So in my humble opinion, if you do it use something solid in color and material and glue it with aquarium sealant! That way it won't get knocked loose and fall over!
Hope this helps!
