A question for the Queen.... Mrs. Love......

hoppy Apr 17, 2004 01:12 PM

Hi Kathy,
I have an question in regards to this snake....

Sorry for the huge picture, I have not figured it out yet. I get a couple of these guys each year in my mixed clutches of corns, they are much redder then my regular hypos and the lighter color is almost pure cream/white. they have dark eyes (non-albino) and have a banded pattern to them, like the Milk Snake Phase Corn? I can't figure out what genes are working in this snake and was hoping that you could regonize some of the traits. Thanks for any help.

What do they look like when they are older? I assume you kept some from previous years. Do they have the clear bellies of motleys? It reminds me of a photo I think I have seen on Don's site (SMR) of banded motleys. Want to trade?? I don't have any like that, but I would like some! Take a look at his photos and see what you think. Maybe Don (or others) will comment too.

The front half of this guy is mostly clear with just a couple of Checks black checks on him, once you get to the back half it becomes weird, the belly starts to get speckled with burgandy color, not the normal checks but speckles like a Argentine Boa would have on it's belly, but they are marron/burgandy in Color.
Last year out of 100+ babies I had two of these guys, I kept this one and the other went to Terri, who keeps a collection of my corn snakes for her own breeding project. I had originally called them Crimson corns, but I have now seen that name used on another site for another Morph. In 02 I produced a similar snake from the same line line and did not keep it, I know, I'm an idoit. I had asked about it and thought it was just an oddly colored Hypo and I have lots of Hypos, so I sold it or traded it, but this year I kept one and I am glad I did. That picture is from it's first shed, this one is from Feb of this year, It has not changed at all just gotten bigger?
I will have to look at Don's site. As far as trading, sure I have no problem with that, Terri has asked for another this year, so I will have to see how many pop out this year, I would love to know how they are created and what genes were responsible, I think they are super pretty.

You can put him on a piece of glass and shoot upwards to get a really nice, full belly shot. Be sure to shoot at an angle instead of straight towards the glass, so you don't get a reflection.

A crimson as you pointed out. The bands make it look like the byproduct we get when we get dark eyed progeny out of our banded amel motley lines. Some are motleys and some aren't, but even the non motleys have non-corn bellies. Very speckly. After I see the belly shot, I'll letcha know how it compares to ours.
