Tokay sexing.... Sorry I`m sure it`s been done a hundred times before......

sutmae Apr 17, 2004 01:43 PM

but I would like some other peoples views on this pic. I bought this one a little while ago and was told it`s a female. I bought a male today and the more I look at her the more I think it`s a male. If you need I can post a pic of the other one to make sure.

I know this one has the little brown dots on pores but they are much smaller and much less raised than those on the other male Tokay I bought today. And one of my female leopards also has these little dots on her pores so which is casting the doubt in my mind.

If anyone would be kind enough to help me out here I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,
Sutmae

Sorry this ones a bit blurry but I think you can clearly see a size difference in the size of the dots on his pores, and that the line of pores are raised more.

I found this site, which has really got me wondering:

http://www.stormpages.com/tokay/sexing.htm

I don`t think there is any question about the new one being a male but the picture of the female in that link is very close to the "female" that I have got.

I really don`t want to take the new one back and swap it for a female and end up with 2 but at the same time I can`t have 2 males.

Oh, the joys of keeping reptiles.

Take them both and run your finger over the pores. If you feel resistance or bumpiness it's a male. If you feel smooth skin, it's a female.

The male should look like he has a waxy substance coming out of the pores.

I 99% sure that she is a female now. And they seem to be getting on well in the viv together.

Thanks for your replys, I'm sure that I'll have more questions for you all in the next few weeks!!
