Baby bog turtles

HerpHelmz Apr 17, 2004 06:24 PM

This is another turtle I have never seen, I know that they must be extremely rare, I never see them in the pet trade. Someone I have recently talked to said he sells them for $1000. Anyone have any pics of a baby bog turtle?

I hope to find these guys in the wild this year,I live in SC and plan on spending a lot of my off-work time turtle-photoing.The Riverbanks Zoo has a bog turtle but it is in an extremely small terrarium.I have a picture and will try to post it soon.

Bog turtles are federally protected.

The Baltimore Zoo has a bog turtle exhibit, but it is very naturalistic, so your chances of seeing the bogs is slim.

chances for seeing bogs at baltimore zoo is even slimmer since the raccoons keep eating them.

In SC i think there are only a very small number of identified sites.
I would imagine you would have to know where they are in advance...unlike th enorthern pops which can be found by knowing the habitat well.
