Tomorrow I'm going to be messing with Sam's setup a lot (building new hides and stacks and stuff, since the ones I made before turned out to be a little too tall), so I'm going to also build a little dirt box. I think I may want to seal it with something, but then again, it doesn't really matter if the dirt ruins it or anything, because it'll just be a little box made of wood. I'm going to take measurements and see how big I want it to be. Basically, I want it to be big enough that she can get inside it (probably through an entrance hole in the top) and be able to move the dirt around, without taking up too much cage space. I think I'm going to make it the same height as the stacks I'm making, so that I can set the dirt box next to the stacks, and it'll form sort of a second level to the cage. If I screw something up, she won't have as much room, but if I do it all right (measurement wise) it should make more usable cage space and make her more comfortable.

I figure the dirt "nesting box" idea seems like a good step towards possibly doing a full dirt setup. it will allow me to see how much she likes the dirt, and also allow room for mistakes. If I accidently add too much water to the mix or something, she can get out of the humidity and into the normal cage area with the low humidity. i think it should work out well with this shallow tank. Then I can make up my mind for when I get a new cage for her, so I know whether to do one that's made for dirt, or just one that I can put a good box of dirt in or something. I know it won't be a full dirt setup, but it will be a big step forward from the setup right now, and I'm excited to see how it goes.
