Hi there - New Candoia keeper

dsnow666 Apr 17, 2004 06:58 PM

hi there

im from england but have managed to navigate my way to this web site, and glad of it.

In about a weeks time im going to be the proud new owner of a Halmahera ground boa - went to see it for the third time today and watched it feed so bit the bullet and reserved it.

Its been a close call between the halmahera and a viper boa, the viper boa was the first choice but the shop keeper informed me that this one was a particularly poor feeder (even for candoia)and for a first candoia the halmahera was a better choice, with this particular one being a very good feeder - eating a small defrost rat pup every 6 - 8 days.

so as a result i thought i would sign up and say hello

any hint's or tips would be gladly recieved. (espically on feeding)

thanks

damian

Hey Damian,

I have owned by Viper boas and currently own 1:1 Halmahera (also 2:3 Paulsoni--of which 0:2 female Isabels)...and in my experience you made the right choice. I love the Halmahera and they are far more difficult to come by...also as much as I loved my Viper (my first Candoia) she was the first animal to seriously tag me (sadly, just before she died during a nasty cold spell in Seattle). I love the Halmaheras...what does yours look like? My female (recent acquisition and very testy!) is beautiful tan gold and my male is standard chocolate brown. I have had the male for over two years now, and find him to be a very interesting animal.
In my experience Halmaheras eat much better, tame down easier, and are a larger, most robust and overall more interesting animal with that amazing triangluar head so unique with the Vipers and Halmas. I also understand the Halmas are easier to breed.
