snake relieved itself while handling

EricJ Apr 17, 2004 08:17 PM

I was handling my (almost yearling) corn a little while ago when she stopped and relieved herself on my shirt. She was not startled, and after she was done she just kept about her buisness. I know some reptiles do this as a defense mechanism(sp?). I figure it was just the exercise. So my question is, How do i stop this from happening in the future? And how come my snake seems to hold it so long? I can see the area above the vent is larger than the tail but she seems to hold it for a few days sometimes.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Hey, it happens. I have had my snakes 'elimiate' several time when I've had them out of their enclosures. I can usually tell when my python will go. Usually after a few days of her eating. I think it's like people. You know first thing in the morning after we move around we have to 'go'. Just live with it.

Hey,

One thing you might try to ensure no poo on your clothes, bedding, pool table (GAross!)is give your snake a bath before handling if they should have gone and haven't. The "movement" is triggered by water and/or exercise, so to know for sure you'll have a clean handle give them a bath. No worries.

My corn has defecated on the floor on a few occasions. I don't know why, but the only time that he has done it while he is out of his cage is when I set him on the floor. Maybe it's the roughness of the carpet that stimulates him to defecate. Dunno.
