how often should a redtail urinate?

jef1cruz Apr 17, 2004 09:16 PM

I know that I have been over feeding mine but I am fixing that. Should they be peeing everyday? I am going to take her to the vet just to have a check up but not until I get her diet going so that I dont have to hear that she is way to fat. Also will they pass smaller food faster then bigger rats? Can it harm them to feed them smaller food. Like feeding one med rat instead of a large one when they are plenty big enough to eat a large. Will it pass faster or is it best to feed two med @ once if you cant get a large rat. Should you feed them single rats no matter the size and what until it passes and feed again?

Urinating daily can be a sign for a serious bacterial infection.
The fet should check for bacteriums in the cloaca.
Overfeeding is the best way to get rid of a boa.

If your boa is urinating everyday or even a few times a week then there is something wrong with him/her and waiting to take him/her to the vet because you want to avoid a lecture is irresponsible Herping. For your snake to show significant signs of weight loss could take several months in which case the infection that is raging through its body is spreading and the snake may not be able to be saved. Take it to the vet, buck up to the well deserved lecture and take it as the educational talk that you obviously need.
As far as feeding goes it is going to depend on the age and size of your Boa. If it is big enough to take large rats, then feed it large rats, just feed it every other week instead of two rats per week. Snakes are designed to feed and then go with out food for several weeks and feed again. Feeding them smaller meals more often does not give them a chance to digest and rest before they feed again. Feed bigger meals less often and you will have a healthier, thinner snake that does not cost as much to feed.
Good Luck
