Beginning New Multi-Setup Stand/System - Need Advice

Spar Jun 14, 2003 02:01 PM

I am moving into a new house come September and will be installing a new multi-setup unit to my living room. The contents will be: 75g, 270g, and 2 15g Verticals all in the same very large Stand/System.

In the past I have only built 1 50 gallon stand, but nothing that would hold near as much weight as I will be needing this to hold. With the 270g being for fish, water can be extremely heavy. The other 3 tanks are for Dart Setups

I am looking for someone who has built their own stands in the past to help me out a little in the first process of getting the blue-prints and material needs done. I.e. Type of wood, support, etc.

It may be easier to contact by email if you have time: cbporter@tamu.edu

i havent built my own stand yet, once we complete the apartment out back i will. but since i havent built a stand, i would recommend you use 4x4s. I found a really nice web site detailing how to make a really heavy duty stand. but i have it bookmarked on the other computer. i have to go mow the church's grass, when i get back ill give you the link. the building sequance seems a little out of order but is very detailed.

ok the link is at the bottom of this post. i think it said stand is for a 125 gallon though. i would think you can use this person's basic concept and just add plenty of support where needed for yours. do i search any search engine on building a stand youll find TONS of plans and tutorials.

That site is very nice and actually makes it look fairly easy. The canopy looks pretty tough, but I am sure it will all be fun puting it together. I will take pictures and post them as the project moves along. Thanks again,

I think the 4x4's might be a bit much, maybe not for a 125gal. Have you seen the ones they sell in stores? If they hold the tanks with the little crappy wood they use 4x4's are overkill. I plan to build a stand for my 29gal here very soon. I am plan to use a 2x4 frame, with pine or oak slats on the outside. We will see, i've been to Lowes twice now and have ended up getting other things. Maybe next time I will remember.
