impaction? Please help

Taloha19 Apr 18, 2004 04:11 AM

Ok, I posted earlier this week about Lucky not eating. I tried crickets- she ate one. I'm concerned that she may be impacted? The mealworms can cause this??
She hasn't been pooping since she stopped eating. Well, she did after her last little meal, but nothing since. Maybe some urate, but not poop.
What are the signs of impaction? She is still normal behavior except for not eating. Still active, no swollen abdomen. Her tail still has fat in it, but it's been a week and I'm worried. Is there anything I can do? Maybe try baby food or is tat neccessary?

has she been exposed to a male???
The only explanation I can think of besides impaction for loss of appetite would be because she is gravid. Females tend to lose their appetite a couple of days before laying their eggs. Can you see eggs on her bellyside?? if not can you see a dark circular spot?? What kind of substrate are you using??

first RELAX! My 2 adult leos are also not eating very well at the moment because they are still kindof sluggish from their wintertime cooldown. If she is behaving normally other than not eating (and pooping...she won't poop much if there is no food in her system) then I wouldn't worry. Check to see if the temps in the tank are okay and if they are, maybe try some new foods such as superworms. I use mealies as a staple diet for all of my leos, even the two younger ones, and they have never had a problem with impaction. actually, the more common culprit of impaction would be loose substrate such as sand, bark, etc.
Good luck!!!

Also make sure the temps are really hot

They don't digest well if its not hot enough, and prolly wont be as active either.

Do you have an undertank heater of sorts?

If they don't poop, also give them a warm bath, they'll go right away

good luck
