How quick do corns eat after laying?

Silvergrin Apr 18, 2004 05:03 AM

My snow lady had a clutch of 18 good eggs by my het blizard male 4-15 (thursday). My first clutch! :D She hadn't eaten the last two feeding periods before that (I know they don't eat before laying, but I thought I'd offer since I wasn't sure how far along she was). I tried to feed her today (4-17, two days later) and she only took one mouse. Before laying she was one of my most vigorous eaters and would happily take three mice and look for more. How long does it take for females to start pigging out after laying? I'd understand if the ladies are a little slow to really chow down after pregnancy. She just looks so skinny now that the eggs are out of her I want to feed her lots
If she should be pigging out already, maybe she's just pickier? Sometimes my snakes don't like the f/t white mice. It's more expensive but I'd be happy to pick her up some fresh colorful prey if that's what she wants. She deserves it after that huge clutch!

The photos of the parents were taken while they were eating, hence the lumps

All corns go in shed immediatly after laying the eggs. Therefore some will take a mnouse immediatly and some after the shed. I feed mine typically two hours after laying. But I feed a fuzzy that will cost no energy to swallow.

Huh. She doesn't look like she's about to shed yet (tho it's hard for me to tell with snows until they're extremely "blue"
But feeding fuzzies instead of adults sounds like a great idea. As does feeding a fuzzy a few hours after laying. Will keep in mind if my other girls turn out gravid. Thanks!
