Separate are Not

SJB Apr 18, 2004 01:45 PM

My russian male has nipped at one of my females so much that her front leg is bloody.I do want her to lay eggs but not sure if they have bred as of yet my male has been trying ever since spring begain. My other female is a bit to young yet to lay eggs , he dosn't seem to bother her as much. Is it common to take the male away for a while when this happens and give the female a brake, if so for how long. Also if and when she starts trying to make a nest and should lay eggs should I remove the male?
Thanks bunch,
SJB

I think the females need a break every once in awhile.

My male is way too persistent at times, and last year he was in the mood all year long. I put him in a separate pen every few days, just so the females can eat and bask without hassle. And when they are laying eggs I take out the male.
