Hey there,
Those are some nice pics you took. I haven't had the opportunity yet to visit the national zoo, even after all the times i've spent in D.C. How is their overall herp collection? Of course the hilight of my visit would be to see the komodos, but do they have an impressive collection of other varanids and herps?
I have heard that the zoo has had some problems over the past couple of years with poisons put down for rodent control, killing the exhibit's rare inhabitants... I can't remember exactly when this occured, or which animal, but I remember it being sort of a 'kick to the face' for the entire zoo administration.
Nice pics nevertheless, I sure do want to visit there someday, maybe this summer. Take care,
bob

How is their overall herp collection?-unknown as of now, i am going back this weekend and will get back to you (i was with relatives from out of town and it was 92 degrees and the line was like 10 minutes long in the sun)
do they have an impressive collection of other varanids and herps?-they have a whole "reptile" house exhibit, the last time i was there was like 3 years ago, they had some crocs, burms, GTP's, snakes, other lizards. i'll get back to you on that.
THe komodo exhibit is very nice becasue they made the landforms blend in with the pattern so sometimes it is hard to see the komodos.
