Gray Hatchling - What am I?

lovelyleopards Apr 18, 2004 03:26 PM

I found this little guy in a pile of pine straw in my driveway. I live in central Alabama. Sorry for the quality of the photos. Is this a gray rat? It's so tiny I'd bet it hasn't even shed yet. Any ideas? And any tips for getting it feeding would be appreciated. I may try to catch a small salamander from my yard. Thanks for any help!

This one is even worse, but it shows him curled up. He has a patternless belly with a slight beige/pinkish tint.

Need a close-up of his head. DeKay's??
Does he have dark patches under his eyes?

It's a Brown Snake(aka the Dekay's Snake). They eat earthworms, slugs and snails.

Thanks so much. Not a hatchling after all, actually probably an adult. I did a search and confirmed his diet, and he's already eaten 2 little earth worms from my yard (no chemicals/pesticides used, don't worry). Looks like he may be a keeper. Thanks!!!!!
