Little White Swimming Things in Tank

andria Jun 14, 2003 02:56 PM

hi! i just noticed that there are these little white things swimming around in my california newt (chiquita)'s tank. they're really small and he doesn't seem to be bothered by them. he still swims in his water and they aren't on him, but they are swimming all over in the water. i recently had some ivy plants in my room that died b/c of little white bugs on them and think that they came from his tank. any ideas on what they are and how to get rid of them? i asked the local pet store, but they seemed to think they were good for the tank. i'm not so sure. i have a 10 gallon setup with a small filter and one of those long bubbler things. the area is half rocks and then sloped down for a swimming area. he has a plastic island in the swimming part and one live plant. on the dry part he has a plastic cave sitting on fake breeding grass for fish. he is still eating a lot and looks the same. i've had him for 3 1/2 years and never noticed these white things before. there are some very tiny snails that my roomate added to his tank, other than that he's all by himself. any suggestions would be helpful!!!!!!!!! thanks!!!

My newt tank has a few kind of tiny tiny tiny bugs in it.

All bugs aren't bad, some help regulate the condition of the water by eating funus and other parasites.

Just make sure they aren't parasite themselves and start eating your animals

most likely nematodes or flatworms. They aren't harmful, but are a definite sign that you have to muck disolved waste in the tank. Try more frequent water changes.
