Babies in tubs/racks?

lucille Apr 18, 2004 03:52 PM

Can you raise hatchlings in heated plastic tubs for the first week or two?

Absolutely. I think a lot of people do. How many are you talking about? You don't want to overcrowd them because of nips. If it's by itself you could keep it in there for months depending on the tub. Make sure you create a basking area with a temp of around 110. They will need UV also.

i have been told to start with group of 8-10 per bin, then by 2 weeks 6 per bin, 3-4 weeks 4 per bin....you sort by size so theres less bullying if any.

thats what i was told by several breeeders and thats what i'm trying as soon as they all wake up.... (only 1 is out....the rest are working on it).

hope this helps.

I have racks with heat tape, is this not suitable?

beardiedragon Apr 19, 2004 12:31 PM

heat tape is fine for cold nights to keep things warm but not for basking. They need heat from above to properly digest their food as they cannot properly regulate temps from ground heat.
