Peacock Tree Frogs.

sallie_keeper Apr 18, 2004 06:13 PM

Hello, Looking for information on the Peacock treefrog. First, does anyone know their Latin name?? That helps greatly when researching animals..

I saw a really good looking, large peacock treefrog at the worst possible petshop and I am thinking of getting it. I am experienced in other frogs so I have no problems on that part, but dont really know much about these new guys.

What is the best care for them?? Setup? Temp? etc. Is there a good website/caresheet out there??

How do I know if it is healty or not? The petshop it is in, is pure crap!!! But they have not had the frog for very long, and luckily, they do not mix any of there frogs..so that part is ok.. BUT it is in a TINY plastic pet keeper not much bigger than the frog itself.

any thoughts??
Thanks,
Harpy

I have one of these guys to.. mines a little guy who lives with my little whites (I know you aren't suposed to put them together but not to worry... he's a large big eye (err peacock,, so many names for them) and a small whites so no cannibalism is gonna happen) he is the first one to wake up at night and sings all the time. And he's got a high sex drive too... he keeps trying to amplex my very distraught whites. he he. Well for his care I have found him very happy at a high end humidity, infact he usually starts to sing after i mist him. Also he can cram any size cricket in his little mouth.. sometimes I think he is the tree frog version of a pac man. I also found he prefers to sit on plant leaves rather then the side of the glass like a lot of my other treefrogs. I keep the tank at about mid 70's and he seems happy. I am with you, I haven't found any info on them... I will check out what kingsnake resources have to say about him.
