Southwestern Virginia Outing, 4/18/04....lots of herp pics, and an ID question....

JP Apr 18, 2004 06:31 PM

Well, alas, no serpents....but what are you going to do. We just hiked around for a couple of hours late am to early afternoon. I'll put a link to my web site that has a bunch more photos. I'm fairly proud of the camera work....I'm learning at least. Let me know what you think. Also, the first couple of pis are of some salamanders...I think they are Red-backed Salamanders (Plethodon cinereus ), but if anyone could confirm that I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Here's a pic from the trails...no herps in the picture but I thought it was pretty...

This is way cool...a couple of red spotted newts mating. Its kinda hard to tell from the pic. There are several more pics of red spotteds on my web page.

And here are some turtles. I think ones a red-bellied cooter, and the other a red-eared slider. Agree? There are several more nice turtle pics on my page.

Thanks, Enjoy........Joe
