viv finished..they love it but uv light is so hot???why????

has anyone else noticed that when you put baby..8 week old beardys in my new 4ft viv and they love it.. in the space of 12 hours they have went to there normal colour.bright sandy colour..no black no more.)so glad as i thought they werre ill as they were blackish for 3 days.there also more lively.going from hot to cold sections..jumping about...and in general look far happier than in the 2 ft viv where they just sat there...i have a big log..which has 4 or 5 good basking spots ranging from 90 degrees..to 110....and 2 diffrent spot lights..i got the gradient etc i want(or you guys recommended).lol..the airflow must be right aswell..thanks guys...im going to get pic on here let u guys see this log..i got it from beach 6 years ago...its amazing..anyway just one bad side..i got my uv running 6 inches above log...so there under it...but it is 100 degrees on surface of log.are uv suppose to give out heat??????????or should i raise it????????thanks

Yes all uv lights give off heat, basking spots for little guys can get up to 115F and 6" away is great. If you want to increase your UV output, put mylar behind the bulb.

a tube? If it's a mv bulb they probably recommend no closer than 12".
