Hatchling dropped his/her tail!!!!!!!!

tdelliott Jun 14, 2003 03:25 PM

Has anyone ever had a newborn hatchling drop their tail?
I just had a beautiful tangerine hatch today and when I went to move her/him to a shoe box in the rack system, she SCREAMED bloody murder and dropped her tail.

I have never had one drop a tail on me and needless to say, it freaked me out!! I have also never had one scream like she did. Do you think she will be OK. Can they do OK with losing a tail so soon after hatching? She is only a few hours old.

Thanks for any advice you can offer,

I haven't had it happen but I have heard its not very good. When it starts eating make sure you feed it reeeeaaaalllly good. make sure to give it vitamin suppliments too and keep it on paper towels. you gotta keep that tail clean. I hope she is okay. good luck.
